Introduction
Our group is called Dermaga Seni Pusaka (Port of Culture) (“DSP”), a cultural performing arts group, consisting of arts of traditional Malay drums (kompang), hobby horse dance (kuda kepang), traditional Javanese music (gamelan ensemble) and Javanese dance (tarian). DSP is being led by Mr. Sani Ahmad, PBM.
Objective
Since its inception in 2006, Singapore, DSP’s aim was of retaining the Malay cultural heritage, introduce Malay / Javanese culture to the general public, and also educating youths in the virtues and values of the Malays/ Javanese culture. DSP has since then progressively move towards these goals, creating a sense of belonging to today’s youths by bridging the young with the “dying” Malay cultural arts and activities, as well as deterring youths from engaging in wayward activities.
